  1. SPANISH RICE

  4. INGREDIENTS:
  5. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  6. 1 cup uncooked regular long grain rice
  7. 1 medium onion, chopped (1 cup)
  8. 2 1/2 cups water
  9. 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  10. 3/4 teaspoons chili powder
  11. 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  12. 1 small green pepper , chopped (1/2 cup)
  13. 1 8-ounce can tomato sauce (not pasta sauce)

  15. DIRECTIONS:
  16. Heat oil in 10-inch skillet over medium heat. Cook rice and
  17. onion in oil about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until
  18. rice is golden brown and onion is tender. Stir in remaining
  19. ingredients. Heat to boiling; reduce heat to low. Cover and
  20. simmer about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until rice
  21. is tender.
